2020 GMC Sierra 1500 vs 2020 Ram 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 drops in like a bomb in the segment this year with brand new features and various trims, engines and features that will surpass expectations for demanding truck owners all over the country. Let’s put it head to head with the Ram 1500, another popular option in the segment.

The 2020 GMC Sierra has a very accessible price, and unique exterior features

The 2020 GMC Sierra is offered at a starting price of $31,198 whereas a bare, Tradesman variant of the Ram 1500 starts at $35,445. This is quite a sizeable difference that can be a deal-breaker right from the start. Outside, the GMC Sierra 1500 gets a few industry firsts, one of them is the use of carbon fibre in a pickup bed that makes it stronger and lighter than anything else on the market. Another first available on the Sierra is the world's first six-function Multi-Pro Tailgate. Six functions assist you with loading, unloading, and accessing the cargo box. This feature isn't available on the Ram.

The 2020 GMC Sierra's engine choices are unprecedented

The Sierra 1500 gives you more horsepower, latitude and versatility under the hood than the Ram 1500. It is offered with the 285 hp 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine, the 310 hp 2.7L Turbo engine, the 355 hp 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine, the 420 hp 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 and the 277 hp 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 engine.

These engines can be paired with a series of transmissions, like the 6-speed automatic transmission, 8-speed automatic transmission, and 10-speed automatic transmission. For 2020, the 10-speed automatic transmission is now offered with the 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management. The 5.3L V-8 and 10-speed automatic pairing are standard on the Sierra Denali and Sierra AT4 and available on all four-wheel drive Sierras with the SLE trim level and above.

On the efficiency side of things, the new 10-speed Duramax Turbo-Diesel 3.0L produces 277 hp with 420 lb-ft of torque has a class-leading fuel efficiency rating of 10.2/7.2 L/100 km (city/highway), which is much better than the Ram

Towing is a key element in the truck business. That’s why the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 can haul up to 12,100 pounds.
